Hello world
After spending the first 2 weeks of my newfound, at-will unemployment playing with the CSS of this site and contributing improvements to Bear Blog so that everything is just so, I am finally ready to introduce myself as a web entity.
My name is Omer Bensaadon and I have been working in developer tools for about the past decade as a product manager.
First I worked on infrastructure tools @ Pivotal (remember Cloud Foundry?), then on OSS tools (Knative) then finally at GitHub working on GitHub Projects, slash commands, tasklists vNext (RIP) and thought leadership related to AI.
In the past few years my experience has been dominated, for better or for worse, by AI tools; first at GitHub working on Copilot then at Augment Code as the only product person there for ~6 months.
I have some opinions about AI, some of those opinions are even quite contrarian, but I don't want to make enemies in my very first post.
But if I'm not here to make enemies, why start a blog? My primary reason for creating this blog is two-fold:
- I do a lot of writing in my free time, so I figured it was time to start writing publicly
- I want to be able to win arguments with a link
I've also taken a bit of a deep-dive into existentialism recently, and after I'd read and resonated with Sartre's perspective that "a man is no other than a series of undertakings" I was horrified to discover that I don't have any public undertakings to speak of.
Well, that all changes today, probably!
